Politics In Photography-

The term political statement is used to refer to any act or non-verbal form of communication that is intended to influence a decision to be made for or by a political party. A political statement can vary from a mass demonstration to the wearing of a badge with a political slogan.

Politics can be used to send messages through art and photography to makes statements

Political Landscape in Art and Photography-
Properganda-

Propaganda is communication that is primarily used to influence an audience and further an agenda, which may not be objective and may be selectively presenting facts to encourage a particular synthesis or perception, or using loaded language to produce an emotional rather than a rational response to the information that is being presented. Propaganda can be found in news and journalism, government, advertising, entertainment, education, and activism and is often associated with material which is prepared by governments as part of war efforts, political campaigns, revolutionaries, big businesses, ultra-religious organisations, the media, and certain individuals such as soapboxers.
Examples Of Political Statements Through Art-

Cold War Steve-

Cold War Steve aka Christopher Spencer is an artist from Birmingham, England who specialises in surreal, satirical and hilarious collages originally made on his phone and iPad.
Since 2016 Cold War Steve’s Twitter account has been a lifeline to many in these dark times with his following increasing by the day. Three solo exhibitions, two books with Thames & Hudson, commissions for the National Galleries of Scotland, Whitworth in Manchester, Birmingham Museum and Gallery, a giant billboard installation at Glastonbury Festival and an international TIME magazine cover have all followed.
In 2020 his jigsaw Hells-cape was shortlisted for the Design Museum’s Design of the Year Award and his latest book A Prat’s Progress nominated for the The Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize. Cold War Steve also shot a feature length documentary about his work – Cold War Steve Meets The Outside World was released in October on Sky Arts.
Gender in society-

Gender roles in society means how we are expected to act, speak, dress, groom, and conduct ourselves based upon our assigned sex. For example, girls and women are generally expected to dress in typically feminine ways and be polite, accommodating, and nurturing. Men are generally expected to be strong, aggressive, and bold.

Every society, ethnic group, and culture has gender role expectations, but they can be very different from group to group. They can also change in the same society over time. For example, pink used to be considered a masculine colour in the U.S. while blue was considered feminine.

Women in Society and Art-

Women are often presented in art as fragile and very feminine, often women are nude in photography and mainly art. This shows that there are major inequalities in art to do with gender and society within art, in recent years photography within social media and advertisement has made unattainable standards for women to live up to including beauty standards.

Men in Society and Art-

Art is typically dominated by men just like most other sectors of work, i think this is important as this shows that men are the dominant ones creating the images of how women and men are supposed to be represented in art. Whether this be women being nude and represented as weak and fragile or men being represented as strong masculine and dominant. I think this is important to show how feminine and masculine and shown in photography and art across media.

Digital Culture-

A digital culture is a concept that describes how technology and the internet are shaping the way that we interact as humans. It's the way that we behave, think and communicate within society. ... It's applicable to multiple topics but it comes down to one overarching theme; the relationship between humans and technology.
Example of Digital Culture is Photography-

Folasade Adeoso

Folasade Adeoso is known for her digital collages, which mix archival and contemporary images into Dalí-esque visions.
Assessment Task-

Triptych-
A triptych is a group of 3 separate images displayed together. But crucially, the 3 images are more than just 3 photographs set out next to each other - they work together to create something more than that.

Our assessment is to create a triptych within one of the themes of either Gender in Society, Politics in Art, or Digital Culture. I have chosen to create my triptych on Gender in society to show and represent how women have been presented in society across the ages.

My idea-

My idea is to create a Triptych of three different images representing different ages of how women and men are viewed and represented in media and how they are seen in general to the public eye, this includes how they are expected to act, behave and do.

I want to make this work to create a visual representation of the ideals and standards women and men are held to in the first world culture, I want to outline how this defines peoples identity and how it sets boundaries for people to confine too.

The message of my work is that gender stereotypes and ideals shouldn't confine people to how they should act or represent themselves just because the media says they should act a certain way. I want to represent how everyone is different and no two people are the same so it would be impossible to represent how everyone should act.
